In the startup world everything is fast-paced, businesses often require quick solutions without compromising on quality. As a product designer, I thrive on solving such challenges, leveraging lean design principles to deliver effective solutions rapidly. This case study explores how I designed a mobile loyalty app for Worldia, a global travel company, within just 5 hours using Giift’s loyalty management marketplace.

🏋🏻‍♂️ The Challenge: Building a Loyalty Solution at Speed

Worldia, a company specialising in creating customised travel experiences for agents and distributors, approached Giift with a unique challenge:

Objective: Reward their travel agents for bringing in more bookings to boost engagement and loyalty.

Key Requirements: The solution needed to be a mobile application, leveraging Giift’s white-label loyalty management system and marketplace.

Time Constraint: The entire design and user flow had to be completed within 5 hours.

The project’s tight deadline and specific requirements made it the perfect opportunity to demonstrate how a lean design approach could quickly deliver value.

🤓 Understanding the Client and Industry

The travel industry is highly competitive, where retaining and motivating travel agents is crucial for success. Worldia wanted to incentivise agents by rewarding them with points for every booking they secured, which could later be redeemed for exclusive rewards.

Given the importance of speed-to-market, the solution had to utilise Giift’s existing marketplace and loyalty platform to minimise development time while ensuring it was customised to Worldia’s brand identity.

🏇🏻 The Lean Design Approach

With only 5 hours to deliver, I had to be laser-focused on optimising both time and resources. Here’s how I approached the project:

1. Setting Priorities: I started by identifying the core features needed to achieve Worldia’s goal:
— A points system to reward bookings.
— A dashboard to claim points and track points.
— A seamless redemption process integrated with Giift’s marketplace.

2. Leveraging White-Label Solutions: By using Giift’s existing infrastructure, I as well as the DevOps saved time and effort while ensuring the system was robust and scalable. My focus was on customising the user interface to align with Worldia’s branding.

3. Rapid Prototyping: I used Figma to quickly design the key screens and user flows, ensuring a cohesive mobile-first experience. The entire prototype was completed in under 5 hours.

👨🏻‍💻 Concept Designs

Here’s a walkthrough of the design:

1. Onboarding Screen
The app starts with a simple onboarding flow, guiding agents through the benefits of the loyalty program. This ensures they understand the value proposition upfront.

2. Dashboard for Claiming Points
The main dashboard distinctly separates unclaimed points from claimed ones and highlights recent bookings. I focused on designing a clean and intuitive interface, ensuring agents can quickly see their progress.

3. Agent Verification
The verification process is intentionally implemented to confirm that all agent details are accurate before they can proceed with submitting a claim. To simplify this task and save time, the system automatically pre-fills all relevant information, minimising the agent’s effort while ensuring data accuracy.

4. Points Redemption
The rewards section is integrated with Giift’s marketplace, allowing agents to redeem their points effortlessly. I customised the flow to reflect Worldia’s brand colors and aesthetics, creating a seamless experience.

Food for thought: Notifications & Leaderboard Gamification 🕹️
To keep agents engaged,
push notifications for special rewards and a leaderboard to encourage friendly competition among agents can be designed.

🥊 Numbers and Impact (with Prototype testing)

Ah, I’d love to share, but you know how it is with data confidentiality 😅. Can’t spill the exact numbers, unfortunately!

Despite the tight timeline, the initial user testing feedback indicating high satisfaction. Here are some early metrics (based on projected client data):

  • 90% Positive feedback from a test group of agents on ease of use and design.
  • 30% Boost is projected in agent engagement through the loyalty program.
  • 15% Increase is anticipated in bookings during the pilot phase.

Worldia was thrilled with the quick turnaround and how the app aligned with their business goals.

🎙️Client Testimonial

“Thank you for the demo and for making it fit so well with our use case. It was very convincing. Thank you very much!” — Worldia

👩🏻‍🏫 Lessons Learned

This project reaffirmed the power of lean design in the startup ecosystem and the effectiveness of leveraging existing platforms for rapid deployment. By focusing on what truly matters and using a white-label solution, I was able to deliver a high-impact product in record time. My key takeaways are:

1. Prioritise Core Features: Identify what’s essential to the client’s needs and focus on delivering that first.

2. Leverage Existing Platforms: White-label solutions can significantly reduce development time while maintaining quality.

3. Stay Agile: Flexibility and quick decision-making are crucial when working under tight deadlines.

🤔 What’s Next?

This User Interface and Experience Design is not the final version. The goal was to quickly create a concept based on previous learnings, with minimal time investment, to convert potential clients into actual ones. It also aimed to provide a rough estimate of resources, requirements, costs, and compatibility between Giift and Worldia.

I aim to make this handover a success for Worldia and roll it out to their Agent Partners. I’m excited to work together on future updates to continuously improve the user experience.
